Annie T. Doe Foundation 2013 Annual Gala Report
We sincerely express our deepest gratitude to all Guests, Friends, Partners, Supporters, Champions, including businesses and churches for another successful gala. The gala raised about $18,000 before gala expenses. Funds raised will be used to continue the Annie T. Doe Memorial Academy construction in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County Liberia to provide free primary education for about 200 under privileged kids. The event was held on Saturday, September 7th, at The Embassy Suites, 5400 John Hammons, Concord, NC. About 100 people were in attendance.

The forty five minutes silent auction was then followed by a 3-course dinner and program in the Grand Ballroom of the Concord Convention Center in the Embassy Suites

Humanitarian Award Recipient, Patricia Shafer, Mothering Across Continents

Prayers were offered by Pastor Emmanuel Morris, Senior Pastor, Spencer Memorial Methodist Church, Charlotte, NC, followed by welcome remarks from Leroy Foster, Advisory Board, after Francis K. Sio, Jr. Master of Ceremony formally opened the program.

Our guests were entertained by StarDollz professional models, led by Patient Woyee displaying African attires made by the Amadou Fashion Sewing, followed by inspirational soloist, Ruby Edwards special performance.


Our Founder & Chairman, re-affirmed the foundations goals and objectives providing the two year snap shot of the Foundation progressing. Key message was “No child should be left behind. Education is every child’s right and should not be a privilege. Here are few major accomplishments made by the foundation in the past two years:

  • 501(c)3 Approval; tax-deductible donation
  • Raised $50K with $36K invested in the Annie T. Doe Academy construction
  • The Academy is currently at roof level, representing a 80% completion
  • Invested $2K in the Marco Financing effort impacting over 10 women
  • $12K spent on 2011 & 2012 gala/operational expenses
  • Formally launched The Voice of Empowerment Newsletter
  • His Excellency, Hon. Joseph Boakai, Vice President of Liberia officially endorsed the Foundation


Immediately following Our Chairman remarks, Tanya Burrell introduced, our honoree, Patricia Shafer and Francis Sio, presented Patricia with the Annie Doe 2013 Humanitarian Award.

Patricia thanked the Foundation and reiterated Mothering Across Continents’ goals and objectives. She also made note of the progress made to date by the Annie Doe Foundation to construct a learning facility to educate less fortunate kids.

The program concluded with vote of thanks by Mrs. Rachel Robinson, Director Programs.
